What is iLOQ?

iLOQ is a battery-free smart locking solution that combines mechanical security with digital access management. Unlike many electronic locking systems, iLOQ cylinders do not require batteries within the lock or a wired power connection. This removes the need for battery replacement programmes and reduces the infrastructure requirements often associated with traditional access control systems. The iLOQ S50 system uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology within a smartphone. When the phone is presented to the lock, a small burst of energy powers the cylinder and enables access. The iLOQ S5 system operates using a programmable key. The kinetic energy generated when the key is inserted into the lock powers the cylinder, allowing access without batteries or external power. In many applications, the existing cylinder can simply be replaced with an iLOQ cylinder, helping to minimise installation work and disruption.

Benefits of iLOQ Locking Systems

Blue Check
No Batteries Within the Lock
One of the key advantages of iLOQ systems is that the lock cylinders do not rely on batteries for operation.

This removes the ongoing maintenance associated with battery replacement and eliminates concerns about batteries becoming depleted and preventing access.
Blue Check
No Power Required at the Door
Traditional access control systems often require electrical cabling and power supplies to be installed at each controlled door.

With iLOQ, there is no requirement for mains power at the lock cylinder itself. This can make the system particularly suitable for locations where installing power would be difficult, costly or impractical.
Blue Check
Flexible Access Management
Access rights can be managed digitally, allowing organisations to control who has access to specific areas and when.

This provides greater control over keys and credentials while simplifying administration across larger sites or multi-occupancy environments.
Blue Check
Reduced Installation Requirements
Because iLOQ systems are based around intelligent lock cylinders, installation can often be completed without major modifications to the existing door.

In many cases, the existing cylinder can be replaced directly, reducing disruption and avoiding the need for extensive locksmithing work.

Suitable for Challenging Locations
iLOQ systems are particularly effective in locations where traditional access control solutions may be difficult to install.

Remote utility sites, gates, plant areas and other hard-to-reach locations can often benefit from the flexibility offered by battery-free smart locking technology.
Blue Check
iLOQ S50 Mobile Access
The iLOQ S50 system allows authorised users to unlock doors using their smartphone.

Using the NFC capabilities already built into compatible devices, the phone provides the energy required to power the lock during operation. Access credentials are managed digitally, providing a convenient and secure alternative to traditional key management.

The S50 system can be particularly beneficial for organisations that need to manage access across multiple users, buildings or locations.
Blue Check
iLOQ S5 Digital Keys
The iLOQ S5 system provides many of the same management benefits while using a programmable key instead of a smartphone.

When the key is inserted into the lock, the kinetic energy generated powers the cylinder and enables access.

This approach provides a practical solution for users who prefer a physical key while still benefiting from digital access management and battery-free operation.
